A sub-set of the SMEs will be the network administrators ("net admins"), ie those people who manage and control a given network, and are sufficiently knowledgeable about IP network performance issues as to be be able to help the PERT CMs with relevant and useful information as and when the PERT is investigating a case which involves the network in question. It is expected that a senior NOC engineer would most probably be suited for the role of network SME. Ideally each NREN would provide the names and contact details of their network experts, but an acceptable alternative would be to provide just a single group e-mail address (e.g. operations@dante.org.uk).

Please note that, depending on your NOC set-up, it may not necessarily be appropriate to simply give the NOC help desk e-mail - if it is the case that your NOC's help-desk staff are not knowledgeable about IP performance issues then it would be better if the PERT can directly contact someone or some group which is. Important providing names and details of NREN SMEs does not commit you to anything. Whilst we would hope that NRENs would be keen to help the PERT whenever they are able to, NREN SMEs (unlike the PERT CMs) are under no obligation whatsoever to do so.
