Better "Welcome" mails for end users
This is something that can mostly be fixed by editing templates in the existing PTS.
When a PERT Case Manager creates a ticket in the PTS and provides the "end customer e-mail", a message is sent to that address to provide the end customer with a password for the PTS. Currently, these messages look like this:
---------- Forwarded message ----------
Date: Mon, 30 May 2005 13:00:08 +0200 (CEST)
From: pert@ngn.man.poznan.pl
To: undisclosed-recipients: ;
Subject: Pert Ticket System notification
Your password is ASDALDHSJDH
From looking at this message, it is very hard for an end customer to tell what this is about. In my case, the end customer told me that he almost deleted the message as "spam".
This notification mail should, at the very least, contain a URL that points to the ticket system, i.e.
https://www.pert.geant2.net/pert/welcome.do
It should also mention that the "Username" to be used with that password is the e-mail address to which the notification was sent.
It would also be great to mention the title of the new ticket that caused the customer account to be created.
What is the reason for hiding the recipient(s) in the "To:" header?
Lastly, the fact that the sender address is <pert@ngn.man.poznan.pl> is somewhat confusing to the recipient. It would be better if either a sender address from the GEANT domain (
...@geant2.net - maybe
pert-report@geant2.net would be suitable?) were used, or some text were added that explains why this message about a GEANT PERT case comes from Poland.
Ideally, I would imagine something like this, for the case where there
is a single end customer (multiple end customers aren't supported in
the PTS anyway, at the moment):
Date: Mon, 30 May 2005 13:00:08 +0200 (CEST)
From: pert-report@geant2.net
To: Firstname Lastname <lastname@org.example>
Subject: GEANT2 PERT Ticket System notification

GEANT2 PERT Ticket System (PTS).
Something like this would give the user a much better start for using
the PTS.
