Faster Page Loading and Better Browser History
Problem Description
Loading a specific ticket's summary page is currently quite slow, and adds to the browser history several times, at least for Mozilla. Most of the loading time is spent loading or re-validating the small images in the toolbar of the "new action" editor. I haven't yet found out what causes the gratuituous additions to Mozilla's browser history.
Proposed Resolution
One straightforward possibility for improvement would be to leave out the "new action" editor from the default ticket view. I assume that only a relatively small minority of accesses to the default ticket view lead to new actions being submitted through the built-in editor. Therefore it wouldn't be a significant loss of usability to force users to go through an additional page ("New action") to get the editor for a new action.
Maybe loading of these pages could also be speeded up by allowing the toolbar images to be cached. Currently all HTTP(S) objects are marked as not-cachable, but there are already plans to change this, see
PTSWorkConservation.
