AsymmetricThroughput soon to be closed (input from SimonLeinen). SimonLeinen added a "Current Status" section in which he tried to describe the current state of knowledge about the issue.

On April 22, Chris Welti was able to demonstrate good throughput from and to a laptop at ESTEC - using Iperf with appropriate options to make it set the TCP send-buffer size to a sufficiently high value. For programs that don't request a larger send-buffer size, TCP transmission rate will always be limited on Windows XP, because there doesn't seem to be a system-wide default for the send-buffer size associated with TCP sockets."
