The main aim of Regulation 2024/2982 is to define which protocols and interfaces European Digital Identity Wallets must support under eIDAS, to ensure they are:
interoperable across all EU Member States,
secure, privacy-preserving,
able to issue, present, and manage digital identity data and attribute attestations in a harmonized way.
...
In effect, this regulation ensures that digital identity wallets function in a standard way—both technically and procedurally—so that wallet users, relying parties, and wallet providers can trust the system and have consistent expectations.
