Travel

The Jisc offices are very close to Manchester Oxford Road railway station, which connects to Manchester Piccadilly (next stop) and Manchester Airport. It's about a 10 minute walk from Piccadilly to the training venue, or 2 minutes from Oxford Road.

The trains from the Airport to Piccadilly (and back) take 15-20 minutes, and run frequently through the day, multiple times per hour. You can check train times at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/. You can buy tickets at a machine at the airport station with a credit card. If you buy a ticket to Manchester Stations you can ride to Manchester Oxford Road station, or you can walk from Piccadilly.

Hotels

The Macdonald Hotel is very close to Piccadilly station, and reasonably priced. It's about half a mile from the Jisc offices venue.
See: http://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/our-hotels/macdonald-manchester-hotel-spa/

There is also the Jury's Inn hotel, which is relatively cheap and quite close.

If you prefer a very interesting hotel close to Piccadilly station, but a bit pricier, the Adobe Manchester is very good.

Note that Manchester United are playing at home on Tuesday night, so you should book your hotel early, but there should still be plenty of rooms available via TripAdvisor if necessary.
