GridFTP is a file transfer protocol that uses parallel streams to provide good bulk performance over LFNs. The underlying transport can be TCP or UDT. GridFTP is based of the Globus Toolkit. GridFTP used to depend on the Grid Security Infrastructure for authentication. Since the Globus 4.2 release in July 2008, GridFTP can alternatively use SSH for the control connection. This should make it easier to use GridFTP outside of the full Globus infrastructure.
